Upmarket Caribbean rental property

More top end five-star resorts and developments are being constructed in the Caribbean property market, writes Lana Clements

Upmarket Caribbean rental property

The Caribbean has long been known as playground of the rich, but as the islands experience easier accessibility through cheaper and more frequent flights, it has become more straightforward for the average couple or family to make the trip. It is anticipated that there will be a huge surge in demand for Caribbean rental property on the Islands after the summer's publicity and exposure through the Cricket World Cup. But if the destination won't distinguish the flashy millionaire types from the rest, then the properties will.

You won't get a Caribbean rental property much more ostentatious than one commissioned by Donald Trump. The Trump Island Villas on the Island of Canouan, in the Grenadine are flamboyant in every respect, from the diamond brite pool finish and Italian marble flooring, to the teak or mahogany vanity fixtures in the bathrooms. There are 135 villas in total and they will have access to the Raffles Resort amenities, including an 18-hole golf club, over-water spa, luxury dining, tennis and casino. Canouan is a 35 minute from Barbados and prices start at $2 million.

A more affordable, but nonetheless high class, Caribbean rental property can be found in the shape of the Cove Residences. Construction on the suites and penthouses, with ocean view terraces or balconies, begins this month at the Blue Waters Hotel in Antigua. The resort will contain tropical landscaped gardens, four swimming pools and guests will also have access to the restaurants, beach and spa at the Blue Waters Hotel.

Prices at the Blue Waters resort begin at £166,000 for a one-bedroom apartment and are purchased on a buy-to-let basis, with six weeks put aside for owners to spend at their property.
