As more golfers are looking to combine their hobby with their holiday, The Spanish golf property market is attracting the interest of overseas property buyers wanting to invest in the country’s golfing scene

According to Golf Digest there are over 32,000 golf courses across the world, ranging from links to parkland, heath land, desert, browns, sands, executive, par 3 and even snow. In total, over 64 million people play golf in over 184 nations.

Over the last decade there has been a marked increase in the number of golfers going abroad and combining their annual holiday with their hobby. These special golf vacations, together with vastly reduced airfares, have led to the development of many luxury resorts and property complexes designed especially for golfers.

Spanish golf in the 1970s and 1980s produced many household names, such as Severiano Ballesteros, José María Cañizares, Manuel Piñero and José Rivero and there are now over 60 courses to choose from in the Spanish golf property market. The most popular regions the Costa Blanca and Costa del Sol.

The Desert Springs Resort and Golf Course located near the Spanish town of Cuevas del Almanzora in Almeria is Europe's only international award-winning luxury family resort and championship desert golf course, occupying more than 300 hectares (750 acres) on an elevated plateau. Peter McEvoy, British Amateur Champion and English Walker Cup team captain, cooperated with the Almanzora Bay designers to create two 18-hole golf courses, a four-star golf and sports hotel and a super luxury five-star plus spa hotel, restaurants and shops, as well as more than 2,000 homes ranging from apartments, townhouses and cottages to villas and country houses. Two-bedroom apartments are available from £98,800 / €150,000 through The Almanzora Group.

Spread over two valleys in the foothills of the Sierra Bermeja on the Costa del Sol the 900 acre Monte Mayor Golf & Country Club also offers investment opportunities in Spain's golf property market.  La Heredia will consist of 135 two, three and four-bedroom luxury townhouses each with a unique design and fireplace, double glazing, under floor heating, garage space and a storage unit. Townhouses at Monte Mayor start from 505,000EUR (approx £345,070) for a 182.4 meters squared two bedroom, two bath and go up to 1,000,000EUR (approx £683,307) for a 339.3 metres squared three bedroom, three bath and are available through La Perla International Living.
