Golf properties still available
Golf courses and property go hand in hand in most overseas developers plans, but there are still opportunities to buy near a course where the emphasis remains on nature, writes Jo-ann Hodgson
The 36-hole Golf El Rompido on the Costa de la Luz was built for the purpose of golf alone, going against the grain of most overseas developers. In this westernmost corner of Spain, the white sandy beaches remain unblemished; development is slow, steady and environmentally aware.
Both of the 18-hole courses, the south inaugurated in 2003 and the north in 2006, are created by Spanish designer Alvaro Arana and represent a new concept in golf, where the fundamental objective is respect for the environment. A total absence of buildings throughout the golf course means that nature is the centre of attention.
However, there are opportunities to buy property nearby in arguably the most upscale project in the area, Marina El Rompido, which borders the course. Some of the properties have private swimming pools, others private berths and several with 20-years' El Rompido golf membership and your own buggy included in the price. The lake-front resort was completed in 2001 and has a social club, gymnasium, tennis courts, communal pools, horse riding and 24-hour gated security. Prices at Marina El Rompido range from 770,000 euros up to 1.2 million euros and are available through Titan Properties.
Investment opportunities to buy property on a golf course itself exist within the San Donato Golf Course property development in Italy. San Donato is located 850 metres above sea level and is surrounded by a residential village just 10 minutes from the historic city of l'Aquila in Italy. Residences at the course comprise 100 studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments and are available through Overseas Homesearch. Facilities include a swimming pool, a fitness centre, restaurants, bars, a golf pro-shop and clubhouse. Prices at San Donato Golf start at £76,000 going up to £239,900.
Parque da Floresta, on the borders of the Costa Vicentina Nature Reserve, Portugal, also offers golf course property, as well as spa and sporting amenities. This includes the two latest phases that make up Quinta da Encosta Velha and overlook the front nine holes of the golf course. Available here are two-, three- and four-bedroom golf course property village-houses with access to five communal swimming pools, each with private garden, starting from €397,500 (approximately £261,000). Three-, four- and five-bedroom villas each with a private pool and garden start from €650,000 (approximately £450,000) and are available through Vigia Property Sales UK.
