Buying properties next to your own Spanish golf fairway and with sea views thrown in for good measure may appeal to most people searching for a more relaxed pace of life, writes Patricia Curmi, but with most Spanish golf resorts offering extras like famous instructors or free golfing membership, it's getting trickier to pick the holes-in-one from the triple bogies.

The Costa del Sol may be the traditional haunt for golfing fans, with companies like Alanda Homes still winning awards for their high-end resorts, but with golf properties soaring in popularity, and price, all over Europe, the rest of Spain is attempting to get on par with the golf properties offered in the area's exclusive developments.

Murcia, on the Costa Calida, is the latest Spanish province to welcome the golfers with an additional ten golf resorts springing up in addition to the four that were already located in the area. Property developers, Villaminder, have even managed to persuade football hero Gary Lineker to head the promotional campaign.

And even the Canary Islands, which have become increasingly popular with British families as a holiday destination, are getting in on the act. The council in Lanzarote, currently home to just one 18-hole golf course in Costa Teguise, is making tentative plans for the creation of two more in Tías and Playa Blanca.

For those looking to tee off, Spanish golf properties should be on the shortlist, as the combination of old favourite and modern innovator in golfing resorts makes sense to both those looking to relocate permanently and those on the hunt for an investment opportunity.
