Celebrate with Quebec ski property
As Quebec City prepares to celebrate its 400th anniversary next year, the province’s popular ski resorts become ever more attractive to skiers and property buyers alike, writes Jo-ann Hodgson
In 2008, Quebec City will be celebrating its 400th anniversary, kicking off with extra special New Year's Eve celebrations and continuing throughout the year.
As part of the festivities, the annual Winter Carnival in Quebec City – the largest of its kind in the world – will run from the 17th of February, with events and activities to include giant snow sculptures, dog-sled racing, a soap-box derby, a canoe ice-running race across the Saint Lawrence River and a new night of parades designed especially for the anniversary celebrations.
Tremblant, Quebec's number one ski resort, is set to become even more accessible for skiers and property buyers this winter, with direct flights into the resort from New York; Tremblant is just a one-and-a-half-hour drive from Montreal. With 94 trails, 16 novice runs, 31 intermediate runs and miles of expert terrain the resort has everything for the seasoned and not-so-seasoned skier and has even added green credentials to its cap recently by upgrading its snow-making equipment to that which uses less electricity and produced less CO2 emissions.
Another of Quebec's famous ski resorts, Mont Sainte-Anne, has also been attracting the attention of skier and property buyers of late, gearing up for the opening of TELUS-XL, a new extreme snow park for expert skiers. The park, open night and day, will feature extra large kink rails and boxes, 45-foot table tops, a wall ride, 20-foot rails and 3D boxes.
If you're looking for more than just fun on the slopes an easy drive from Quebec City, Stoneham ski resort, which hosted the Nokia FIS Snowboard Worldcup in March this year, offers relaxation in the Arctic Spa zone and a new winter menu at the silver service restaurant Mer & Monts is currently available at Le Massif, which runs along the banks of the St Lawrence river.
For those interested in investing in Quebec's ski property market, Tremblants's new resort village, Versant Soleil, is gradually taking shape with new slope side condos now developed and the construction of a village-to-village lift on target to start construction at the end of 2007. This new village-to-village lift will connect Versant Sud and Versant Soleil.
David Stanley Redfern Ltd is also marketing a new development of one-to-six-bedroom lodges and chalets at the Rouge River Laurentian Mountain resort. Located close to local amenities and skiing, canoeing, fishing, hiking and swimming opportunities, 'home sites' for the custom-made Quebec ski properties start from CDN$39,990 (approximately £18,557).
