New flights to Dalaman begin
Over the coming months Dalaman could really prove itself to be Turkey's number one property hotspot, following the launch of a new low-cost flight service earlier this week.
On Monday Easyjet began operating a thrice-weekly service between London Gatwick and Dalaman, a town located on the south-west coast of Turkey.
It is estimated that more than 60,000 passengers a year will now start to visit Dalaman, and so popular is the route expected to be that it has already been announced that the flight frequency between these two destinations will increase to five times a week as of 1st May.
Earlier this year it was revealed that approximately 17,000 Brits already own a property in Turkey. What's more, according to the World Tourism Organisation Turkey has one of the best performing, not to mention lucrative, tourism industries in the world, with over 27 million tourists from all around the world expected to visit the country this year.
And some experts believe that this new flight route will serve to further increase the numbers of property buyers and tourists heading to Turkey.
The long-anticipated arrival of no-thrills flights to the Turkish coast is big news," says Dominic Whiting, editor of the Buying in Turkey guide. "Improving access from the UK should have a very positive effect on tourism and the property market in Dalaman and other nearby resorts in Turkey – with a recent Europe-wide study by Savills finding an average price premium of 37% for property in an area served by a budget airline."
Dalaman is one area of Turkey which is undergoing big changes at present - ones that could really tempt property investors to the region. There are currently plans for 70,000 new hotel beds, two thermal spa centres and a golf course, due for completion in 2009, while a road tunnel, opened in 2006, brings the upmarket yachting town of Gocek within 15 minutes drive.
What's more properties in and around the Dalaman area are still affordable, with prices for two-bedroom apartments in the Akkaya Gardens development, located around 20 minutes from Dalaman, starting from £44,000, and two-bedroom villas from £68,000.
