Portugal's popularity is on the rise
Portugal's tourist numbers are on the increase and have been rising steadily for the last few years it has been reported.
According to the World Trade Organisation, visitor numbers were up by 10 per cent in 2007. The news could be a welcome boost for those who are looking to jump on board Portugal's buy-to-let property market. Mark Bingham, Managing Director of property firm Owner Invest comments: "Portugal has proved to be an extremely popular tourist destination in recent years, and the increase in visitors has been pivotal in the growing demands on the property market."
Portugal has an established appeal to migrants and second home property seekers, with the Algarve particularly popular with the retirement sector. Now other areas, such as the Blue Coast, are realising the appeal of the sun-drenched Portuguese coastline. Infrastructure and new resorts are utilising the popularity of Portugal and opening up more of the coastline, as well as the inland areas to tourists and property seekers alike.
The Blue Coast, which is situated to the south of Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, is growing, with new property developments being built to utilise the stunning coastline and world-class golf courses. One such resort is the Troia Resort, which is situated 30 minutes south of Lisbon. "Troia is a site of great historical and local importance, adding a unique and magic charm to the resort," comments Charles Roberts, Sales Manager of IRG Portugal, an affiliate of Christie's Great Estates who sell the development. "The Blue Coast has seen its popularity rise in recent years, as people discover the area's numerous charms. From historical sites to vineyards, and golden beaches to golf courses, the area has much to offer second property buyers interested in Portugal."
Troia is an archaeologically-important Roman area, with a wealth of history dating back to the Roman Empire. The aim of the Troia Resort is to preserve this historical significance, whilst turning the area into a large tourist destination. The Arrabida National Park is close-by and the area has plenty of countryside framing the coastline.
Along with the preservation of the Roman artefacts and buildings, the resort encompasses a world-famous 18-hole championship gold course, equestrian centre, tennis centre and large marina. Other advantages include the three hour flight times from the UK and the close proximity of Lisbon Airport. Prices start £230,080 for one- and two-bedroom apartments.
